/Harbor House Requests Support to Complete History-Making Project
Over the past two years, Harbor House has been quietly pursuing a history-making $4.5 million project to build the Lorena Panozzo Center for Domestic Violence Services and Prevention. A $2 million grant obtained in partnership with the City of Kankakee and an investment of $500,000 from Harbor House’s reserves meant the organization needed a $2 million investment from the community.
Through the financial support of individuals, municipalities, faith communities, and businesses, Harbor House has received gifts and pledges of $1.9 million toward the campaign goal to construct the Lorena Panozzo Center.
The 12,000-square-foot Center will include 12 safe and welcoming living units of varying sizes, more confidential offices, and additional collaborative program spaces—each designed to provide privacy, dignity, and a safe place for healing.

“A year ago, this goal seemed impossible, but the response to our $2 million community campaign has been overwhelming,” noted Jenny Schoenwetter, Harbor House Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. “The generosity of our caring community has made it possible for Harbor House to expand its services to survivors.”
Harbor House now invites the community to partner with a financial gift to complete the project.
